"The National Electoral Transparency Initiative" is a national electoral reform program implemented by AID Romania in partnership with Transparency International Romania, and supported by the United States Embassy in Romania.
Through this program, AID creates a mechanism promoting the dialogue between the local mass media and civil society and the candidates to the Romanian Parliament, with a view to informing the citizens objectively over the parliamentary political parties' programs. This mechanism, representing the Policy Action Groups, is a democratic exercise which implies debates over the electoral programs of the political parties, but focusing on the problems of the local communities.
At the same time, AID creates, through this program, an instrument of information and analysis of the programs and ideologies promoted by the parliamentary political parties from Romania in the general electoral campaign of 2004. This instrument - The Citizen's Electoral Guide comprises the top 10 most important initiatives and projects of public policies promoted by each party and shall be published by 95 media partners from 39 counties of Romania.
AID Romania is a non-governmental, apolitical and non-profit organization whose goal is strengthening democracy in Romania. The organization is specialized in implementing programs in the fields of electoral reform, public administration reform and in improving the quality of the leaders in Romania.
The successful implementation of the National Electoral Transparency Initiative wouldn't have been possible without the responsible and constructive attitude of the mass media, civil society and political representatives who have been participating in our program, and whom we wish to thank and congratulate for their contribution in strengthening democracy in our country.
